Our Origin Story
In every fable, every fairy tale, there’s always a proverbial “dragon” that the protagonist needs to overcome in order to emerge victorious.
But dragons in stories are often misunderstood – feared instead of revered. When the power of the dragon is harnessed, heroes are born, quests are triumphant, and the ending is always a happy one.
Given the importance, and difficulty of our mission, we named ourselves after the last living dragon – the Komodo Dragon – recognizing that it will take the power, wisdom, and just a touch of magic that only a dragon can provide, for us to successfully achieve our goals.

Komodo Cares
At Komodo Health, we believe we have a responsibility to give back to our communities, and use our philanthropic investments, employee engagement, and technology to help like-minded organizations reduce the burden of disease.
To empower our employees’ desires to give back and make change in times of unprecedented need and beyond, Komodo Cares was founded in 2015 as an entirely employee-run committee within Komodo Health for this very purpose. Volunteers engage in ongoing philanthropic events and fundraising initiatives to support non-profit organizations that are addressing issues such as racial inequality, hunger, mental health, LGBTQ rights and more.
Dragon Pride
Komodo is committed to fostering a positive workplace for every employee, and we encourage our colleagues to bring their whole, authentic selves to work.
DragonPride is an employee-run LGBTQIA+ group for people of all orientations and gender identities who want to be part of a community working to promote diversity and inclusivity. DragonPride is a safe space for people to share their stories among a welcoming group of colleagues. We aim to highlight and improve the LGBTQIA+ experience, we provide peer support to our LGBTQIA+ colleagues, we host group conversations and volunteer opportunities, and we advise on Komodo’s policies and benefits.
Varanidae
Varanidae is Komodo’s women’s initiative, focused on encouraging and supporting women within the organization.
Varanidae intends to inspire, educate, and develop transferable skills that will help Dragons create positive change both in and out of the organization. Varanidae’s events include a mentorship program, inspirational speaker series, continuing education workshops, and more
