[W]e are proud to announce that Garrett Voge has won our December 2012 DiversityJobs Scholarship award.
Garrett’s essay was intelligent and beautifully written. He described the discrimination he has faced since coming out a year ago, and how this experience has driven his studies and community involvement to challenge people’s perceptions. Garrett is currently enrolled in the Masters of Accounting Program at the University of Arizona, where he is working on his senior thesis “…which revolves around analyzing the stock market returns to see if institutional investors value LGBTQIA+ progressive policies differently than the common investor.”
The nine finalists – Garrett Voge, Akintoye Akindele, Nakeida Duncan, Dionna Littles, Tosin Ola-Weissmann, Khalilah Mitchell, Luke Nelson, Karina Levesque, and Jennifer Monroe – were selected from thousands of other applicants for their dedication to learning, desire to make a positive impact on the world, and how their incredible stories have helped mold their future career paths. All the applicants should feel very proud of their noble pursuits.
